Grade Calculator

If your current grade is 82 percent, the final exam is worth 25 percent, and you want an overall 85 percent, you need a specific final score — not a guess. This calculator solves that equation for you, and shows what happens if the required score is above 100 percent.

Enter your numbers and click Calculate.

How to use

  1. Enter your current grade as a percentage.
  2. Enter the final exam weight and your target overall grade.
  3. Click Calculate to see the final score you need.
  4. If the result is over 100, lower the target or ask about extra graded work.

Frequently asked questions

How is the needed final score calculated?

Needed score equals (target minus current grade times coursework weight) divided by final weight. For example, with a current 82, final weight 25 percent, and target 85, the needed final is 94 percent.

What if I need more than 100 percent?

Then the target cannot be reached by the final exam alone, even with a perfect score. Review other assignments or revise the target.

Can I use letter grades?

Convert the letter grade to the percentage your school uses first, then enter that number. Schools convert letters differently, so check your syllabus.
