Frequently asked questions

What is a weighted GPA?

A weighted GPA multiplies each grade point by the course credit hours before averaging, so heavier courses count more than lighter ones.

What does a 4.0 scale mean?

On a common 4.0 scale, A equals 4.0, B equals 3.0, C equals 2.0, and D equals 1.0, with plus and minus grades in between. Some schools differ, so check your school policy.

How is the needed final score calculated?

Needed score equals (target minus current grade times coursework weight) divided by final weight. For example, with a current 82, final weight 25 percent, and target 85, the needed final is 94 percent.

What if I need more than 100 percent?

Then the target cannot be reached by the final exam alone, even with a perfect score. Review other assignments or revise the target.

How many hours should I plan each day?

That depends on your course load. Start with the time you can honestly keep, such as 60 to 90 minutes on school days, and add time only after a week of keeping the plan.

Should I plan every minute?

No. Plan study blocks and one task per block. Over-detailed plans are the first ones to be abandoned.

How many questions should a quiz have?

Ten to twenty questions is a good practice set. Shorter quizzes are easier to repeat, and repetition is what builds recall.

Why do wrong answers matter?

Plausible wrong answers force you to distinguish similar ideas, such as mitochondrion versus chloroplast, instead of just recognizing a familiar word.

How long should a flashcard answer be?

One word, one date, or one short sentence. Long answers turn flashcards into notes, which are slower to review.

Should I study cards in order?

Start in order to learn them, then shuffle the order in your head by jumping between cards so you do not just memorize the sequence.

Which citation style should I use?

Use the style your teacher, university, or journal requires. APA is common in social sciences, MLA in humanities, and Chicago in history and publishing.

Why must I verify the citation?

Style manuals are updated, and edge cases such as missing authors, multiple authors, and online sources have special rules that a simple generator cannot cover perfectly.
